The Los Angeles Times is now reporting that Apple will be making its own FairPlay digital rights management available to any book publishers that wish to use it. A big disappointment for those who hoped that book's on Apple's iBookstore would be DRM-free as music is on iTunes. It shouldn't be too much of a surprise considering how Apple still uses Fairplay for movies and TV shows that are sold on iTunes, not to mention apps as well. Ironically, it still technically supports it for music as well although its safe to assume that Apple won't be going back down that road anytime soon. Apple hasn't said much about it still but March is coming soon and we should know soon enough. Does that disappoint any of you out there who were keeping an eye on the iPad ?
