Rumor has it that Apple is selling the iPhone without AT&T proof of contract. Yes folks, that's right, apparently you can walk into to your nearest Apple store and score one of the hottest smartphone of all times.
9to5Mac reports that Apple has changed the requirements for buying a no contract iPhone in the USA. US buyers have been able to purchase no contract iPhones at "list price" for quite some time, but they still had to present proof of an AT&T plan at the time of purchase. This requirement has since been removed. Gizmodo got a copy of the internal Apple documentation that covers all the details.
So we thought upon hearing this great news, is it really possible to own an iPhone with T-Moblie or any other wireless phone company of our choosing? Apparently this was too good to be true and these reports were wrong. iPhone is still locked but you can still get an iPhone with no contract. A source from Apple (supposedly an Apple retail employee) divulge that "it takes like 2 minutes to unlock them." You can also check our guides here.
This seems totally unfair since iPhones are sold unlocked in other countries, we guess since the US is iPhones biggest market it would have been a huge deal for Apple.
As per Apple's official document, you are only entitled to one iPhone a day, and just a quick reminder these are the prices : 3G 8GB, $499; 3GS 16GB, $599; 3GS 32GB, $699.
