iDongle: Standalone Tethered Boot Solution For Jailbroken iPhone\iPodTouch

Since Apple started shipping devices with bootroms not vulnerable to previous exploits. If you have a newer model of iPhone\iPod Touch and have jailbroken it on OS 3.1.2 then you would be familiar with the term tethered jailbreak. In case you don’t know, tethered jailbreak means whenever you reboot a tethered jailbroken device it asks for a restore and stucks at connect to iTunes screen. The only thing you need to do is to connect your iDevice to your computer and run the jailbreak tool like BlackRa1n and RedSn0w again in order to boot your device.

How do I know if my device needs a tethered boot?

Any iPhone 3GS made after week 40 (2009). The week number is usually the 4th and 5th digit of the serial number. iPod Touch 2G whose serial number begins with “MC” are concerned or any iPod Touch 3G.

Which device does iDongle support ?

From now, iPhone 3GS and iPodTouch 2G/3G are supported, all with OS 3.1 / 3.1.1 / 3.1.2 only, but the later is recommended.

Will iDongle support OS 3.1.3 ?

Maybe, or not. iDongle can be easily updated through USB. If jailbreak is available, I’ll try and post a free update.
