ABC and CBS Bringing HTML5 Encoded TV Shows To iPad
The Wall Street Journal is reporting that ABC and CBS are currently trying to adapt their TV show episodes for the iPad. Both are set to offer streamable programming to new iPad owners immediately upon launch although their delivery strategies are slightly different from one another. ABC plans to use the app that was unearthed and confirmed earlier whereas CBS will stream through the browser thanks to HTML5 coding which they have been testing. The eventual user experience will be a commercial supported affair that should be familiar to those who’ve used their respective online streaming services already. The only thing that remains now is for NBC and Hulu to join in and the portable media consumption menu for iPad users will be complete. It’ll also be interesting to see how Apple will adapt the iTunes store pricing for episodic TV programming, which will soon be up against free or potentially subscription based alternatives.
