Jailbreak iPhone OS 4.0 with RedSn0w 0.9.5 Beta 2

Recently the iPhone Dev-Team announced the jailbreak of iPhone OS 4.0 with RedSn0w 0.9.5b1. This was great accomplishment for the member of the Dev-Team, the hack allowed all the jailbreak community developers to update their software for the Apple's upcoming iPhone OS 4.0 in June.

Since then the Dev-Team has updated the version of RedSn0w to 0.9.5b2. No other features have been announced with this beta2 of RedSn0w.

NOTE:

This Jailbreak is for Developers ONLY

This RedSn0w 0.9.5 BETA release supports:
  • iPhone 3G only (for now)
  • Mac OSX only (for now)
  • the 4.0beta1 Firmware only (for now)

IF YOU RELY ON CARRIER UNLOCK STAY CLEAR OF THIS BETA SOFTWARE

That’s because the beta redsn0w works only if your device has already been upgraded to the stock 4.0 beta1 IPSW from Apple, which contains a baseband update. If you installed that OS 4.0 IPSW, and you’ve already lost the carrier unlock you will have to wait till the next planned release of ultrasn0w and blacksn0w becomes available.

How To Use RedSn0w?

  1. Updated your iPhone3G to iPhone1,2_4.0_8A230m_Restore.ipsw
  2. Launch the beta redsn0w 0.9.5 beta2
  3. Select your stock iPhone1,2_4.0_8A230m_Restore.ipsw file (you’ve already used this to update your iPhone3G to 4.0beta1\2)
  4. Select Install Cydia and click Next. Use DFU mode to install the jailbreak.
When your iPhone3G comes back up, you’ll notice Cydia has a blank white icon (we told you many things were broken right now!) You’ll also notice Cydia has no sources. Go to the Sources panel and add this repo: apt.saurik.com/cydia-3.7 (ignore all network related errors). When Cydia restarts, you should see its real logo now, and the standard sources should be ready to use. read more
