Keep Up To Date With The World Cup: Apps, Podcasts, Livestreams, and More

The World Cup began earlier today with a kick off between South Africa and Mexico on ESPN in the U.S. This post should help you keep up to date with all the different technology we have today!

TV

In the U.S, only two television networks have the right sto the World Cup, ESPN and ABC. All of the matches for the entire World Cup will only be aired on these two networks. The matches wil obviously be aired in HD but also in 3D if you have access to ESPN 3D. For those of you who want to watch certain matches in specific, check your digital cable / satellite program guide OR you can check ESPN's website. The big upcoming game this weekend is England vs. USA at 1:30pm ET on ABC.

Helpful Websites

There are a large number of websites devoted to World Cup coverage but the ones we recommend taking a look at are te folloing:
If you are stuck in the office and have access to the internet, don't miss out on the games. You can access it from ESPN3.com depending on what ISP you are on and if not, we can go to the less legal side of things BUT it is the World Cup afterall. The two other sites that will probably have the games are: Roja Directa and Iraq Goals.

For those of you who are into fantasy sports, you can play fantasy "World Cup" on a number of sites but we'd recommend trying it at ESPN’s deal as that is where all the big names are playing, such as Ron and Fez from Sirius XM.

Mobile Apps

Just like there are a ton of websites covering World Cup news, there are a ton of mobile apps as well across multiple mobile platforms. The two we would highly recommend checking out are the following (comes with iTunes links but the mobile apps are available on multiple platforms):

  • Goal.com’s App [also available for Android]. Goal.com in a mobile app is the best way to sum this one up. Live scores, post-game reports, etc. Totally free as well!

  • NYC Soccer Game Finder. This app helps New Yorkers find directions of places that are showing the game, places such as bars. Apparently Nevada Smiths is a premier bar to watch the games still!

Radio / Podcasts

Sirius XM has all of the games of the World Cup live for anyone with satellite radio. You can use the Android app as well to listen to games live. Ron and Fez (11am - 3pm, on weekdays) are also all over the World Cup. The Guardian has a podcast called World Cup Daily which is something everyone must check out + it's free. Another podcast that will bring the news of the tournament to everyone is World Football Daily. This one isn't free but its only $5 per month but it is definitely worth the money if you have the money to spare.
