At this point many people who have pre-ordered have already gotten their phone (whether it was an early delivery or a long line they had been waiting on). Many people are already starting to report issues with their brand new iPhone 4's.
A number of readers in our forum have discovered that their iPhone 4s arriving today are exhibiting areas of brown or yellow discoloration on the highly-touted Retina display.Another issue that many people have been reporting are scratches on the back of their phone. The iPhone 4 back is supposedly made of Gorilla Glass which is a strengthened material that is more resistant to scratches and cracks. Rather odd that many users have been reporting issues with it thus far. Here are some pictures and some quick info that Engadget had written:
At least one user paid a visit to the Genius Bar at his local Apple retail store but was told that there are no replacement units available at the moment. Given the iPhone 4 shortages, it may be some time until affected users can obtain replacements.
The prevalence of the issue is unknown at this time, but there are a significant number of users reporting experiencing it on their phones.
The photo you're seeing above is our leader Joshua's iPhone 4 review unit, snapped by Ryan Block just moments ago. Ryan pointed out that there are some nasty scratches on the back of the phone. While we don't have any better photos of it at the moment, Josh told us that they're hard to see unless in bright light, but they look pretty notable to us for a five day-old unit made of Gorilla Glass.
As many of you may know, the iPhone 4 contains a new antenna system which was implemented in hopes of providing better service and fewer dropped calls. There is a new issue rising with this feature as well, this time it is a problem more specifically for lefties. When people hold cover the left side of the phone with their hands (while holding it) or if their face is too close to it, the service drastically drops for the user. Many people have complained about this and furthermore made video proof of the whole ordeal. Check out some of the YouTube videos replicating this problem below:
The same issue was shown by another user as well below:
Other users were complaining about the issue occurring only when blocking the left side of the phone:
