[How To] Install Flash On Your iPad

ipad cases

Recently info was released on Flash 10.1 being ported to the iPad by popular hacker Comex and now the files have been released so you can get Flash support on your iPad as well, as long as it is jailbroken that is. The plugin that allows Flash on your iPad is called Frash and it doesn't do video playback yet, but you can still play games and other animations as of right now. The instructions are not as easy as just point and click but they aren't that hard either. Check out the instructions below:

How To Install Flash On Your iPad:

First and foremost make sure your iPad is jailbroken. If it isn't jailbroken, check out our Spirit jailbreak guide here.
1. Download Frash.deb and keep it nearby.
2. Decide how you're going to get files onto your iPad.
  • For Mac users, it's dead simple -- just install Netatalk, which will automatically pop up your iPad in the Finder's Sharing list.
  • Windows users can try out this guide at iClarified to get OpenSSH installed and running and use WinSCP -- it's just as easy. Either way, the login is "root" and the password is "alpine." Remember, you can seriously screw things up while you're in there, so be careful!
3. Once you've got access to the iPad's filesystem, navigate to /var/root/Media as shown here:
4. Once there, open Media and create a folder called "Cydia."
5. Open the new Cydia folder and create another new folder called "AutoInstall"
6. Upload Frash to your new folder.
7. Restart your iPad a couple times.
8. You are now done! To test it out, navigate to a page in Safari with non-video Flash content and hit the F logo to play it. Remember, no video as of right now but games and simple content still works. We did occasionally crash but it is an early iteration and it will only improve from here on out.
Jobs must have known something like this would have come along eventually. Flash on the iPad - try it out and let us know how it goes for you. If you are having trouble, try using SBSettings or the respring app to restart the Springboard, but we didn't have too many problems without it. Keep in mind that this is all at your own risk and we can't be held responsible. Here is a video showing Frash on the iPad:
