Amazon announced a few weeks ago that they were opening up the Kindle for development and as of today they have officially started to accept requests for the Development Kit which is in limited beta. You can head over to Amazon to sign up and be a beta developer and to request the KDK. The site also has an updated Kindle Development Kit FAQs and API information for anyone who is interested.
