When you restore your iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, your iTunes will contact Apple servers and generate signatures for your device. If you want to secure your future jailbreak, it’s important to save these signatures before a new firmware comes out. You want to do this because once the new firmware is out, Apple stops signing older firmware and without a signature for the older firmware, you cannot resotre your iPhone, iPad, iTouch to the older firmware. Apple won’t let you downgrade your firmware. If you save the signatures for an older firmware for your device, Apple won’t be able to stop you from downgrading firmware even if they stop signing the older firmware.
