With all the recent iPhone 4 news going on, the question left in everyone's minds in the US is: "Will AT&T's network take the strain when all the new iPhones go online?" The video below is CNN Money's take; we'll be interested to see how it goes in New York which has already been struggling. The wireless phone company has been upgrading its network to keep up with demand from current iPhone subscribers and to support future new customers on top of which it introduced new data plans that cap usage at 2GB/month, but will this be enough?
A research analyst at Forrester Research, Charles Golvin said "The success of the iPhone has been a double edged sword for AT&T. Because iPhone users consume more data than any other smartphone customers, AT&T has been constantly learning how to manage heavy data usage on a cellular network." Earlier today, we hear that Apple sold 600,000 iPhone 4s in just a few hours despite the issues that affected the pre-order systems. We also learned that a CDMA iPhone is in production to ship in Q4 of 2010. AT&T must be aware that the world will be watching how it performs later this month so we'll just have to wait and see.
