Apple Announces iPhone 4 Press Conference For Friday July 16

Earlier today Apple finally decided to address the iPhone 4 dilemma in greater detail this Friday in a scheduled press conference. While there isn't much to know about the event as of right now, it will take place in Cupertino and will mainly focus on the iPhone 4 and the lingering reception issues also known as the "Death Grip" situation. Late Wednesday Apple informed the media of the press conference which will formally commence on Friday, July 16th at 10:00 am PST, reported first by the Wall Street Journal. Here is a quote from WSJ about the scheduled conference:

Apple offered no further details beyond that, but given the events of the past few weeks, it’s likely we’ll be hearing quite a bit more about the iPhone’s reported reception problems and Apple’s plans to address them.

For the past few weeks, Apple has had to endure some pretty harsh criticism from fans and media alike and the number of complaints has been increasing steadily as more people progressively acknowledge the antenna issues that have been plaguing the device since its release last month. While it isn't yet known if Apple will end up recalling the iPhone 4, some are assuming the seriousness of a formal press conference is the obvious set-up for such a big announcement. We personally wouldn't count on Apple doing such a thing. Yesterday, Bernstein Research analyst Tony Sacconaghi placed the total cost of a full product recall to Apple at an estimated $1.5 billion, although other estimates have placed figured just beneath $1 billion, either way a pretty substantial amount.
