iOS 4.1 and SDK Seeded To Developers; Lots Of New Features Announced

Find the cell
 phone that’s right for you

The infamous iOS 4.1 update is now available through Apple's Developer Center. iOS 4.1 Beta is available for download now for all of those who have access to the dev center. This is the news that many frustrated iPhone 4 owners have been anticipating for some time, but a new question now rises: what exactly are we getting in iOS 4.1? and also, will our antenna issues be solved, or will they simply be covered up?

As for right now, the release notes don't go into detail about any fixes, however they do state that support for the iOS 4 preview version of Game Center will be phased out soon. There is talk of renaming some files and some string changes, but nothing too interesting at the moment. Many users are reporting that the update includes the signal bar changes that Apple had promised that "will adjust how signal strength bars are calculated and displayed." This specific feature includes making the bars larger than they were before so it is easier to identify the signal strength. Here is what Apple said about the software patch that is supposedly going to fix the "death grip" issues:
The change will adopt a recently recommended formula from AT&T that will more accurately display actual signal strength at any given time. The update will also increase the size of the smaller bars (1, 2, and 3) to make them easier to see.
As previously rumored and expected, the modem firmware has also now been updated to 02.07.01. This means that all jailbreakers and unlockers should STAY AWAY until given further notice from the jailbreak community. You wouldn't want to see all of the hard work that @planetbeing put into unlocking the iPhone 4 go to waste would you? Just do yourself and the jailbreak community a favor and don't update yet so that you may utilize the unlock method that he has found in the future. We don't want more users to bug the hackers more and discourage them from the scene, much like what happened to Geohot.
The most interesting thing about this news though is that the release, once public, could mean that the next jailbreaking and unlocking tools will be released to the public. However, we wouldn't get TOO excited just yet since this is just the SDK beta. Once it goes public, keep your eyes peeled for an iOS 4.0 jailbreak. In the mean time, don't forget to back up your SHSH blobs just in case AND most important of all, don't forget to stay tuned for more news and info on the topic by following us on Twitter and/or subscribing to our RSS feeds.
