Nintendo Shows Lack Of Interest In iPhone 4 Gaming

There are quite a few traditional gaming companies that have made their way on to the App Store - even companies such as Sega and EA who have been around the block with blockbuster titles, have sold some games on Apple's platform. Companies as far as Microsoft have created apps for the iPhone but one company that has been holding out is Nintendo, and according to the company president Satoru Iwata, that won't be changing anytime soon. During a recent investor Q&A session, he answered the question of whether the company will ever sell software on another company's hardware by saying that the hardware that other companies use just isn't good enough. "Other companies don't share Nintendo's values or traditions when it comes to creating devices," he said. "We are absolutely not thinking of doing that."

He was speaking in broader terms (basically the actual question of the App Store wasn't brought up) but it seems pretty clear that Nintendo has no interest in release software on anyone else's platform. Until that changes, we can keep our Donkey Kong, Super Mario, and Zelda fantasies exclusive to our Nintendo consoles or unofficial ROMs. There is no shortage by any means for games on the platform and if you want quality platformers or arcade-style dungeon crawlers, you probably already have them. Still it's too bad that Nintendo is standing firm on their decision as it could open up many more possibilities.
