Turn your iPhone/iTouch into iPad (look-a-like)

As the Apple unfolded its new mystery device “The iPad” last week, a lot of discussion has happened over it. Despite of all the controversies, a vast majority of us will not get to lay our hands on the device for at least another month.

If you are curious to check out the look and feel of an iPad in the meantime, here’s an alternate solution - Turn your iPhone or iTouch into an iPad look-a-like.

As we know, the iPad runs on iPhone OS 3.2, which is an updated version of the OS that drives the iPhone and iTouch. This apart, the iPad has a few things different from the iPhone like an iBooks store, a different interface background, etc. By making these changes on your iPhone, you can have an idea of what to expect on an actual iPad.

Before you begin, you will need to jailbreak your iPhone. Please note that hacking your iPhone could void its warranty and hence proceed at your own risk.

Once you have jailbroken your iPhone, you will need to download and install these jailbreak apps on your iPhone

From Cydia -
• Winterboard - to install custom themes.
• Simple iPad theme - to change the theme of the device.
• FakeCarrier or MakeItMike - to change the carrier name.
• Shrink - to reduce the size of the icons.
• ProSwitcher or MultiFlow - for multitasking

From the AppStore -
• NYTimes - for iPhone from the App Store
• Classics - from App Store
• Kindle - from the App Store
