iPhone Coming To Verizon
In the past there have been rumors that iPhone would be sold by Verizon, but this has yet to happen. It looks like these speculations are about to come true. The Wall Street Journal reported that Apple will be releasing two new iPhones this summer. Apple is also working in collaboration with Verizon to produce a CDMA based model called the "VeriPhone."
There will be two models set for production by different manufactures, the new iPhone will be produced by a Taiwanese contract manufacturer Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., which produced Apple's previous iPhones. It is rumored to have a front facing camera, A 4-family CPU system-on-a-chip, 960x640 double-resolution display and 3rd party multitasking in iPhone 4. However, multitasking was believed to have been an original planned for iPhone 3.x but later scrapped. The double-resolution display is completely new information, this would make sense given the increasingly high resolution screens of the competition. There is also evidence of a video chat for iPhone OS. The second model which is the CDMA will be produced by Pegatron Technology Corp. Production of the CDMA model is set to begin in September, it has not been confirmed when Apple will produce the CDMA model.
With plenty of speculations roaming the airwaves about Verizon compatible with the iPhone, it’s the most credible report that is out there so far suggesting it's happening sometime this year. Since its debut the iPhone has seen two major upgrades both happening around the summertime. It appears that Apple will continue the trend of summertime releases of the iPhone. We are still not sure if these are facts or fiction, in any case if this deemed to be true Verizon compatible iPhone marks a significant break from the single-carrier, AT&T life that the iPhone has lived in the U.S. since its debut.
This will be an opportunity for Apple to reach a whole new audience whether or not they find the iPhone compelling enough to switch from one carrier to the next we'll have to wait and see -- the Wall Street Journal says a product announcement will take place in "June or July." Earlier this year announcements were made that AT&T exclusivity deal would end in 2010 and AT&T was in negotiations with Apple to renew its contract. With Verizon being the largest wireless phone company in the U.S. Its not surprising that they would be in talks with Apple to gain iPhone and iPad contracts. Verizon also claimed that its network is iPhone ready and also for the network traffic it would bring.
