iPhone Possibly Coming to T-Mobile?

Well we previously mentioned in our article about Sprint's and Verizon's plans for the upcoming year that major U.S networks have largely given up on the Apple iPhone and that they are moving aggressively moving towards deploying the new upcoming Android headsets. Apparently, we had it all wrong. A Financial Times report involving statements from a Deutsche Telekom's CEO has a possible rumor of T-Mobile USA possibly launching the iPhone this year or next year. The first part of the report mentioned the company's long-term commitment to turning the direction of T-Mobile's fortunes around, saying that it's all about quickly building a speedy 3G network as part of laying "the foundation for future growth."

The whole report gets a lot more interesting when the CEO, while referring to the iPhone goes on to say that "T-Mobile USA is hoping to start selling the popular smartphone later this year or next year" while focusing on Android in the meantime, as if Android is only being used temporarily to keep the company going down the drain from America's number four carrier spot. It wasn't clear whether the Financial Times got the CEO to make this statement on record or whether the CEO was just sharing knowledge from rumors but the only way this could be true is if the next iPhone were to be AWS-compatible, which is pretty unlikely considering that AWS coverage represents a very small fraction of 3G subscribers. The one thing to keep in mind is that wireless CEOs love to talk about how they'd love to have the iPhone on their network all the time so how much of this is true is uncertain at this point.

What do you think of the whole ordeal? There is no doubt that T-Mobile obtaining the iPhone for their network would help boost their sales but how likely it is to happen is uncertain. Share your thoughts and comments below.
