Jailbroken Wi-Fi iPad Users Can Add GPS By Using BTStack GPS App

Apple iPad Wi-Fi model unlike the Wi-Fi+3G model is not equipped with the GPS feature. iPhone and now iPad jailbreaking and hacking expert, Matthias Ringwald has developed an application that allows users to add GPS to their Wi-Fi model iPad's.

Ringwald is the developer behind the popular jailbreak app - BTStack Keyboard that lets users with jailbroken iPhones to connect their device to a wireless keyboard.

With BTStack GPS app Ringwald has tried to integrate a GPS system to bluetooth enabled devices like the Wi-Fi only version of iPad that do not contain a stock GPS navigation system.

BTStack GPS is available in Cydia Store for $5, the app lets you pair up your iDevice with an external Bluetooth-enabled GPS dongle. To get it working, users will have to first disable the iPad's native bluetooth functionality and then launch the BTStack GPS app. The application then checks out for external GPS units in the vicinity. Once detected and paired, the unit locks itself to the satellite in order to begin pulling the relevant GPS data.

The whole set-up process takes a few minutes to complete. But once this is done, users will be able to log on to other location based applications and use them in association with the external GPS unit without any hassle.

Sony's NV-U35 Navigation System - Claims To Be More Than A Nav

 In an announcement today in Japan Sony reveal that it's [JP] the “nav-u NV-U35″, is more than just  a portable navigation system. This device can be use as a music or video player. It is packed with a  8GB of internal flash memory, a 3.5-inch LCD screen with QVGA (320×240) resolution. It also  supports video in MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 (Baseline Profile), MPEG-4 (Simple Profile) and WMV (VC-1 Main/Simple Profile) formats.

You also have  options to listen to music in numerous formats MP3, AAC, WMA, ATRAC, HE-AAC and linear PCM. While the NVU35  has an array of  pictures as JPEGs.Consumers  can also get a 1W mono speaker, a USB port and a Memory Stick Duo slot.

The device is water-resistant (IPX 5), comes equipped with  a powerful navigation software (that’s only useful within Japan though), features Sony Blu-ray recorder connectivity and after a full charge has a battery life of about 4 hours.

Sized at 112×17.8×79mm, the NV-U35 weighs just 176g. As for now this  device will only be on sale in Japan on March 13 for $410.Unfortunately  for the rest of us Sony hasn’t said anything yet about international sales, but does offer those navigation systems outside Japan, too (this one, for example), which means a release in the US is possible.
