Apple Destroys Q3 2010 Earnings Estimates – With 78% Revenue YOY

Although Apple has been getting some bad press lately due to the issue dubbed "antennagate" it clearly isn't hurting their bottom line for the company. In a press release today, the Cupertino company announced earnings for Q3 2010 which ended on June 26th. There is only one thing we can say - wow, the statistics are pretty impressive. The company posted revenue of $15.7 billion for the quarter with earnings per diluted share coming in at $3.51 p from the $2.01 per share in Q3 of last year. The company's gross margi was 39.% compared to 40.9% from a year ago and international sales accounted for 52% of the company's quarterly revenue. Apple ended up selling 3.47 million Mac computers (a 33% increase from Q3 of last year), 8.4 million iPhone (up from 61%), 9.41 million iPods (an 8% decline), and 3.27 million iPads. Apple's CFO, Peter Oppenheimer did say “We’re really pleased to have generated over $4 billion of cash during the quarter. Looking ahead to the fourth fiscal quarter of 2010, we expect revenue of about $18 billion and we expect diluted earnings per share of about $3.44.” Think whatever you may of Apple, but at this point Apple is practically printing money at Cupertino. CUPERTINO, California—July 20, 2010—Apple® today announced financial results for its fiscal 2010 third quarter ended June 26, 2010. The Company posted record revenue of $15.7 billion and net quarterly profit of $3.25 billion, or $3.51 per diluted share. These results compare to revenue of $9.73 billion and net quarterly profit of $1.83 billion, or $2.01 per diluted share, in the year-ago quarter. Gross margin was 39.1 percent compared to 40.9 percent in the year-ago quarter. International sales accounted for 52 percent of the quarter’s revenue.

Apple sold 3.47 million Macs during the quarter, representing a new quarterly record and a 33 percent unit increase over the year-ago quarter. The Company sold 8.4 million iPhones in the quarter, representing 61 percent unit growth over the year-ago quarter. Apple sold 9.41 million iPods during the quarter, representing an eight percent unit decline from the year-ago quarter. The Company began selling iPads during the quarter, with total sales of 3.27 million.

“It was a phenomenal quarter that exceeded our expectations all around, including the most successful product launch in Apple’s history with iPhone 4,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “iPad is off to a terrific start, more people are buying Macs than ever before, and we have amazing new products still to come this year.”

“We’re really pleased to have generated over $4 billion of cash during the quarter,” said Peter Oppenheimer, Apple’s CFO. “Looking ahead to the fourth fiscal quarter of 2010, we expect revenue of about $18 billion and we expect diluted earnings per share of about $3.44”

Upcoming Sn0wBreeze Update To Jailbreak iPhone 3GS (New Bootrom) On iOS4

iH8Sn0w recently announced that he has managed to jailbreak iPhone 3GS with the new BootRom on iOS4 firmware with Sn0wBreeze. He has shared a video demo of the iPhone 3GS with the new BootRom running iOS4 with an unreleased version of Sn0wBreeze jailbreak utility.

As per a tweet from iH8Sn0w about the iPhone 3GS new BootRom jailbreak with Sn0wBreeze:

NOTE:

• You MUST have SHSH blobs saved for OS 3.1.2. The exploit used in this upcoming Sn0wBreeze hack has been patched in OS 3.1.3 so firmware 3.1.2 is a MUST.
• We assume that it’ll be possible to jailbreak iPod Touch 3G iOS 4 as well provided that you’ve SHSH for 3.1.2 saved but there’s no word from iH8Sn0w on this.
• It’s a tethered jailbreak. For those who don’t know, a tethered jailbreak device once turned off/Reboot/run out of battery, you need to connect it to computer and execute a tool to boot up the device.

Spirit Jailbreak Updated; Adds iTunes 9.2 Compatibility

A tool to fix the Spirit Jailbreak has been released to make it compatible with iTunes 9.2. The original Spirit Jailbreak doesn't work if you have iTunes 9.2 installed. This tool give its the compatibility you will need to make it work but everything else is the same.

Note:

This fix doesn’t bring any other changes. Jailbreaking iOS 4 is not yet possible with Spirit Jailbreak Utility.

Jailbreak / Unlock iOS 4 – Everything You Need To Know

Earlier today, Apple released the iOS 4 to the public as expected. Before you get all excited though, there are some things everyone should know about before hopping the bandwagon and updating to iOS 4. If you want to properly jailbreak your iDevice, make sure you give this a read before taking any further steps. The new software update, iOS 4 is compatible with the 3G, 3GS, the newest iPod Touch, and iPhone 4. For those of you have already played around with the GM release, the build number on this public release is exactly the same (8A293). There are a few changes despite the build number being the same. There is no game center in the pubic release and also, if you go to http://oo.apple.com to opt out of iAd data collection on the GM release, it states that you are not on iOS 4.

Jailbreaking

Note: iPhone 3GS and iPod 3G owners should stay away from iOS 4 for now (especially if you used Spirit to jailbreak)

A hacker named Wizdaz has informed the community that PwnageTool is currently being updated as we speak. The new Pwnagetool (PwnageTool 4.0) will support the iPhone 3G (with the Pwnage exploit), iPhone 3GS and iPod Touch 2G (both with 24kPwn exploit). Don't forget that there is no support for the newer bootrom. If you are one of those jailbreakers who have been at it from the very start, then you will probably remember the tethered days. You will probably want to wait until Spirit is updated or a new tool is updated for a different version.

If you have the iPhone 3G, you always have the option of Redsnow but please stay away from any custom packages. The iPhone Dev Team wrote it well and because they are such a credible source, here is what they said:

We are working hard on a release to our tools that will jailbreak your device (or give you iOS 4 via the jailbreak train) and provide you with a carrier unlock.Until these tools are released you should hold off on updating your device until we have fully tested our tools with all the relevant devices.

If you rely on hacktivation or a carrier unlock (ultrasn0w) then you should not upgrade until we have fully tested and released our tools.

Don’t be tempted with unofficial PwnageTool/redsn0w bundles or releases, just check here or our team twitter for real time release information.
Remember, we risk our devices so you don’t have to (but this time anyone who has made a mistake upgrading their baseband firmware at 3.1.3 or 4.0 should be OK real soon Now!

Unlocking The iOS 4

For those of you who want to unlock your phone, the iPhone Dev Team has released ultrasn0w for unlocking your new iOS 4. We released a guide about this earlier so don't forget to check it out. If you are trying to unlock, you are pretty much good to go although we'd still recommend waiting just a little bit longer before hopping the bandwagon to the iOS 4.

Are you one of the people who can’t wait to get into the iOS 4 goodness that Steve Jobs brought announced in his keynote? We have good news for you! You can now get your hands dirty thanks to the power of the internet. The only problem is that you need a Mac to pull off what we are about to describe. If you have a machine with the Mac OS X on it, read on! The reason you need a Mac component is because iTunes 9.2 is required, and that iTunes build is Mac only. Sorry Windows users, step aside! Step 3.

Now install iOS4:

• Plug in your iOS device, and then tab over to iTunes.
• In iTunes, alt+click on the ‘restore’ button, and then when promoted to locate the file select the IPSW file we just moved to your desktop.
• Wait for between 10 and 15 minutes for the new OS to be moved over.

Just a word of warning that this isn't condoned by Apple, so if something goes wrong, don't expect them to help out. AdMob Updates Advertising SDK To Support iPad Apps

AdMob has announced that its iPhone OS software development kit (SDK) now supports iPad native applications with new ad formats.

In a June 2 blog post, Omar Hamoui, founder and CEO of AdMob, said the company's iPad App SDK is now available for all publishers to download and install in their applications.

"Our new SDK is unified across all devices running the iPhone OS, which means that developers can download one binary for development across all Apple iPhone OS devices – iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. AdMob’s unified iPhone SDK makes it easier for developers to quickly integrate our code and start monetizing their applications.”

The new SDK supports two ad formats in native iPad applications: text and tile ads and image ads. Both of these ad formats are available in the three Internet Advertising Board (IAB) standard ad sizes: 300×250, 728×90, and 468×60.

The new text and tile ad formats contain the same 35 characters as AdMob's standard cost-per-click (CPC) text ads and are easy to create directly in the AdMob interface. The 35 characters of text are automatically re-formatted into all three ad sizes depending on which size ads publishers have implemented in their application.

Meanwhile, image ads become broadly available starting next week, Hamoui said. "We recommend advertisers using image ads provide all three ad sizes to maximize the reach of their campaign. We’re already working with advertisers to create compelling iPad campaigns. Amazon.com is currently running a campaign promoting their Kindle for iPad app."

AdMob has already signed on advertisers to create advertising campaigns for the iPad; currently Amazon.com is currently running a campaign promoting their Kindle for iPad app. AdMob is relatively late to roll out a iPad-specific SDK, competitors Millennial Media, Medialets, Mobclix, and Greystripe have all created ad formats for the device.

Hamoui said AdMob also has put together a sneak preview of the creative potential of iPad ads using HTML5.

"We’re excited about the potential of the iPad for both advertisers and publishers and will continue to invest in providing best in class monetization and advertising solutions on this platform," Hamoui said. "Advertisers should note that any ads targeted to the iPhone OS include the iPad by default and it is also possible to target only iPad devices."

Hamoui also explained that AdMob was one of the first companies to launch ad units for both iPhone and Android applications. "And now we’re helping to drive innovation on the iPad," he said. "We consider today’s launch of text & tile and image ads for iPad native apps to just be the starting point. We’re always thinking about what’s next and working to leverage the unique capabilities of mobile platforms to create engaging ad experiences."

Wi-Fi Sync App Now Compatible With Windows And iPad

We recently posted about wireless sync made available on the iPhone via Wi-Fi Sync. The app was rejected by Apple's AppStore but, was made available to the mass via Cydia only for jailbroken iPhones.

Sources have informed us that now Wi-Fi Sync is now compatible with iPad's and all flavors of Windows (XP, Vista, and Windows 7).

Wi-Fi Sync enables wireless syncing with iTunes and let you Sync whatever you like to just like USB connection. here’s how it works:

1. Your iPhone / iPod Touch must be jailbroken. If you haven’t done so, follow our guide here.
2. Download and install the app for Mac OS X + Windows to use Wi-Fi Sync.
3. Download and install the WiFi Sync on your iPhone / iPod Touch /iPad from the Cydia Store.
4. It’ll appear in iTunes’ list of connected devices
5. Now you can sync music, apps, photos, contacts and everything else wirelessly just as if it were plugged in via USB.

Alternate to iTunes "PwnTunes" Is Here

If you haven't jailbroken your idevice just yet here's another reason why you should.

Meet PwnTunes, it enables "real" raw USB disk access, thumbdrive style. In the root of the now-accessible disk, a drop folder is created for dropping music you'd like to import. PwnTunes also adds itself as a plugin to the native iPhone Music Player app, and upon launch, syncs music from your drop folder directly into your iPhone music library.

In addition PwnTunes allows adding any file type to the device since raw access is enabled to it directly using no special software, very much like a thumb drive. On top of that, they've added the ability to copy normal iTunes-synced songs off the phone, via raw-access mode. They've even made the filenames eye catching via ID3 tags instead of the normal ABCD.mp3 convention as well. A well thought out application.

MAC users will have to wait till the software compatibilities are worked out.

"Sadly due to Apple's restrictive implementation of the Picture Transfer Protocol (iPhoto) currently PwnTunes does not work on a Mac without extra software."

XP users there is one easy-to-overcome hiccup, which is driver-related. XP drivers do not allow writing to the iPhone device without a tweak, but the developer has conveniently added this tweak to the read-only section of your new iPhone USB Disk, so you can install the fix immediately. WiFi Sync - Rejected From AppStore, Now Available In Cydia Store

First time demoed last month by Greg Hughes, WiFi Sync developer, had plan to submit the App to the AppStore and without a surprise, WiFi Sync is rejected from Apple App Store shortly after the submission. WiFi Sync app for iPhone, iPod Touch is now available in the Cydia Store.

Wi-Fi Sync enables wireless syncing with iTunes and let you Sync whatever you like to just like USB connection. here’s how it works:

1. Your iPhone / iPod Touch must be jailbroken. If you haven't done so, follow our guide here.
2. Install the free app for Mac OS X to use Wi-Fi Sync. Windows utility will be available soon.
3. Install and run the WiFi Sync on your iPhone / iPod Touch.
4. It’ll appear in iTunes’ list of connected devices
5. Now you can sync music, apps, photos, contacts and everything else wirelessly just as if it were plugged in via USB.

NOTE: WiFi Sync app is not supported on the iPad.

Jailbroken iPad 3G Rumored To Send SMS Messages [Video]

Apple recently made the iPad 3G model available to the masses. The same day the Dev-Team members jailbroke it and the utility "Spirit Jailbreak" is at it's final stages to be released any time now.

Meanwhile, MuscleNerd just announced that he was able to send an SMS messages using the iPad baseband. He also mentioned that he had used a T-Mobile SIM, only because AT&T SIM cards that come with the iPad don't have the SMS plan setup, though if it did there's a solid chance that it would work just fine.

This is still in it's development state, but we are betting that this mod will be available as soon as the Spirit Jailbreak software to jailbreak iPad OS 3.2, iPhone OS 3.1.3, and iPod Touch (without having the issue of tethered boot) is released.

WiFi Sync: Sync iPhone with iTunes Wirelessly

Synchronizing all your contacts, calendar items, bookmarks, music, and photos from your Mac to your iPhone\iPodTouch is just about as simple a process as you could ask for. But, that doesn’t mean there isn’t room for improvement. One thing that would make the sync-ing process even simpler and hassle-free is the addition of a wireless iTunes synchronization solution.

Developer Greg Hughes is teasing a video of his Wi-Fi Sync app to the peoples of planet internet. As the name implies, the app promises a complete sync of your iPhone\ iPodTouch with iTunes without having to tether and looks pretty straightforward (and occasionally useful) based on the video demonstration below:

Greg reported that he'll be submitting his app to Apple for approval at the end of the week -- good luck with that Greg, we hope to be seeing your app in the AppStore on Cydia at the very least.

Circuitous: Multitasking App for Jailbroken iPhone\iPodTouch

There are quite a few multitasking apps for jailbroken iPhone\iPodTouch devices, like ProSwitcher and Multifl0w, Circuitous is another app that offers another good user experience to toggle between applications.

Dan Zimmerman, the developer behind Circuitous calls it a "custom app switcher".

This app provides a clean interface to switch between the various active applications. Unlike ProSwitcher and Multifl0w where users need to move away from the existing iPhone app to surf through other active applications, Circuitous displays all the active iPhone apps in a vertical dock that can be accessed from any screen of your iPhone.

Using Circuitous, it is possible to activate the custom dock through several shortcuts like short-holding the Sleep button, double pressing the Home button and\or double tapping the status bar on your iPhone. The new version of Circuitous (v1.1) also offers additional features like closing and reordering active apps with simple gestures.Also, users may cycle forward or backward through the various open applications using shortcuts defined about, and can be controlled from the Settings Menu.

SpringBoard Rotator: Landscape View For iPhoneiPodTouch "UPDATED" [Video]

Few day's ago our sources released information about Springboard Rotator, an app that enable landscape view on the iPhone\iPodTouch device. The developer has made some progress in his work by adding animation and support for 3G. When this app was first announced it only supported 3GS.

The app is still in beta, and the developer still hasn't finalized the name.

Updated Version of “Things” Coming To The iPad

More exciting news for iPad enthusiasts - Cultured Code’s Jürgen Schweizer announced in his latest blog post, that the company is working on a new version of Things for the iPad. This is not all surprising, give the fact that at the beginning of February the The Omni Group revealed that its software suite, including Things’ GTD rival OmniFocus, is also heading to the iPad.

Things also has an updated version 1.3, which adds support for “mixed” projects (meaning that you’re no longer limited to having action steps in your projects). Things Touch [iTunes link] for the iPhone\iPodTouch also has updated to 1.3.14 in order to be suitable with the desktop release.

The iPad is well-enhanced to accommodate the productivity suites, we are eagerly waiting to see how Things and OmniFocus works out on the iPad.

Apple Going Flash Free: No Flash On iPad\iPhone\iPodTouch

Apple has been adamant about not supporting Flash on the iPad along with the iPhone and iPodTouch devices. As we all know that so far whatever Apple want they get it, and right now their focus is to have developers crank out boatloads of websites, mobile applications, and digital content that is flash-free for their upcoming idevice – iPad.

Despite the consistent bashing from critics, Apple is successfully changing the way many websites would have otherwise functioned with Flash for the sake of capturing a chunk of the tablet’s presumably large forthcoming audience.

Today, the we learned that both National Public Radio and The Wall Street Journal are also in process of changing large chunks of their Flash content and, are now working on iPad-specific versions of their websites.

As we recently heard, a growing number of companies – not even those confined to the publishing or broadcasting industries – are changing how they do business in order to accommodate how Apple is doing business. Virgin America recently converted their website to support iPhone users by removing all Flash content that would have prevented travelers from checking their flight status on the popular Apple smartphone.

While it’s early to say if Apple’s approach to not support Flash will do any damage to Adobe. Though, it seems that if Apple goes without Flash on their idevices others will follow.

SpringBoard Rotator: Landscape View For iPhone\iPodTouch [Video]

This add-on enables SpringBoard to rotate according to the device’s orientation!

It rotates not only the icons, but the whole user interface, it switches landscape-portrait view , rotates SpringBoard in all 4 orientations according to where iDevice is tilted to, like many applications do.

As per the sources, the developer has not yet decided the name of this tweak. He has come up with the following names and is open to suggestions: Springboard Rotator, DizzyBoard, or SpringBoard 360, or LandScape SpringBoard. The tweak is not out yet but the developer has shared a demo video which is posted below.
